A Piece Of Advice September 2, 2009

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who make life Hell for others, those who don’t care about the other two, and those who live in the Hell created by others. Talking generally here I’m usually in that last group. Although I must admit I’ve been in the other two groups once or twice. The Apathetic group are as bad the Tormentors. Their inaction is as bad as the Tormentors actions. Why do I say this? Because I’m tired of the crap me and my friends have been getting at school. If you see someone hurt and bleeding on the sidewalk, you help them don’t you? The Tormentors have them on the ground beating them and the Apathetic walk on by. Maybe when you see someone struggling you should attempt to help. You could just try and say stop it.

Google; Master of the Internet and World Corporatocracies (as seen in WALL•E) January 20, 2009

Google is a large and powerful internet company, it owns Youtube and another 50 internet companies listed here:

List of Acquisitions by Google.

and it looks like they’re not slowing. Who’s next? Yahoo will be a challenge to buy as it nearly as rich and almost bought Youtube. And you should be worried, if the Google managed a monopoly over the internet you’d have to tolerate terms much worse than it’s current User-End Agreement:

“By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services.”

See: Terms of Service

If it could get that far, Google would eventually own everything from Wikipedia to Word Press (what I use for my blog). A few renegade sites that refuse to be bought would be ‘dealt with’ and all new websites would be owned by Google.

A terrifying prospect until you realize that there’s more to life than the internet and go outside to play in the leaves. Most things sort themselves out, one way or another.

Also if you have watched WALL•E the story plays with the idea of a corporation that owns the world. There’s no profit from the point you ‘buy’ the last country. It would be impossible to buy the whole world, some places and people won’t be bought for anything, you have to take it by force. Then if you hold the entire market and are the entire market, there is no motivation and the money does not move. Everyone works for you and no one outside the company would have any money, because no one would be outside the company. You would have to provide everything for everyone. If it was done well (as in, we need workers and workers must be healthy to work, so we must take care of them. Not; yay! Money! Screw you we have we want, now do what we say!) then all and all it would be extremely similar to communism.

Do not fool yourselves people! Civilization is fragile, held up by people and their beliefs. Look at the recession! Captialism at the stage I described is almost the same as world communism. Thinking that they are so different is only valid to a point. If Google owned the world, what would become of us? Only God knows.

All up my advice would be to be careful when you use Google services.

Hypocrisy of Church (specifically my one) January 18, 2009

If this gets me into trouble, then so be it. It needs to be said. Our church claims to be unified, to co-operate with other Christian churches in the area. Indeed, it co-operates with some. There is still the matter of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Their ideas are different and strange, but still towards Jesus. Incorrect by some standards, but there is not unity between the two Churches of Christ. I, in fact, remember anti-Jehovah’s ‘propaganda’ being dished out at one point, while at my local baptist. The Mormon ideals are even stranger, I have less information, but the basics of Christianity are there.

That is not the worst of it. The worst is that they co-operate with the Catholic church, whose theocracy is as bad as any other church. Praying to saints, confessing to priests and chasing the pope. Where’s God in that sentence? The pope is just a man, a human like anyone else. He is not superior. He is simply a political/religious figure head. The only good a pope does is use his position in the world like John Paul, who played a massive role in the fall of the Soviet Union and communist power in Poland (From Wikipedia; “He has been credited with being instrumental in bringing down communism in Eastern Europe“) He is a politician. Yet in spite of all these things the Protestant church will work with them. Why? Because they are more popular, not better at all. Ancient and rotting, the beast refuses to die, because of conservative old men who stick to tradition and refuse to move forward, refuse to accept advances in society and technology and then teach the habit to their children. To cling to that is to deny change and future.

Frost/Nixon a Review January 17, 2009

Frost/Nixon was a most excellent movie, with brilliant acting and set up as part documentary with most of it reenacted as movie. To most people it would be boring, especially anyone my age. But the story was like that of David and Goliath, a typical talk show host versus the ex-American President, a political and intellectual giant who was fighting with everything he had to regain his career. Only one could win and take the glory they hungered for. The tale was more epic and absorbing than any car chase or gun fight or sword dual. They fought each other with words. They watched and analyzed each other’s subtle body language, with friends and colleges for advice. They could not fight with weapons, so they used their mouths. They had to out think each other. The person who did the research held the power. He had the information. I intend to buy the movie as soon as it comes out. The only problem I had was that Nixon looked more like Brezhnev. All in all I give this movie 9/10. One point taken for the guy not looking anything like Nixon.
